Just got a last minute invite to do a 4 day trip to Lake Saranac ,NY to do some wilderness camping and pike/smallie fishing. Have never targeted pike
specificly with a fly rod. I'm pumped but wish I had more time to get some flies togeather. :-( Stand buy. Hopefully some nice fish pics to get posted next
Sunday!

For pike, I've had success with big salt water flies(6" - 12") using an intermediate line. Smallies can take clousers if you have them or cone
heads streamers in green.
Good luck Bill 0 0 |

Hunny, I'm home. Spectacular place!!! ( especially when the foliage was peaking.) The whole 1500 acre waterway was loaded with flyfishable depths,
clear water, coves, islands and TONS of cover of every kind. Unfortunatly we had a major storm roll through during the first 24 hrs which left several inches
of rain, 20 deg nights and some lingering 25-30knot winds through Thursday. Fall is a unpredictable time in general but this really put the the fishing off
early in the week. ( Not much to do but stoke teh fire, eat and drink. Damn!) Still the weather and fishing got continiusly better as the week went on . By
Saturday we had 60deg partly sunny , 2-5K winds. Sweet! Fished a mix of gear but made sure to get some time in with the fly rod. Top fly was a 4",
weedless red and white bunny fly fished slow. Got a few 30" pike and some fat 2#+ small and largemeouth bass all on this same fly. ( Saw several
smallies in the 4-5# range follow my fly/lure.) Camping (after the initial storm) was excellent as these sites are spacious & REMOTE . One of the cool
things about getting to Middle Saranac is that you have to ferry your gear upstreem from the ramp for an hour + and even have to go through a self service
1800's style river lock! (We packed enough food, drink and "comfort stuff" to sink the boat . It was a sight to see for passing canoests!)
