Recently I posted the above photos of the nice 8wt Garcia I picked up earlier this year for Bass Buggin. Not long after I had received that rod another opportunity presented itself and while I hardly need more than one bass buggin rod I couldn't resist this one. Opportunities to pick up a new unused Phillipson don't come along very often so I went for it.

I haven't been able to squeeze in an opportunity to take out the new Orvis marked Phillipson on the water or even cast it until last Thursday night. I am extreemely pleased with the action and with my purchase.

The two rods are quite different but both serve the purpose very well. The Phillipson is shorter by six inches and much more balanced in the hand. Being shorter by six inches and generally a lighter production blank it is noticably lighter in the hand while fishing. I also found it to be much more accurate in placement which when targeting openings in heavy cover is a big plus. The Garcia is definetely more full flexing bending deeper into the blank and has an overall more powerful air to it. I feel that with the correct leader I could muscle a 7lb Largemouth out of its lair without too much problem with the Garcia. But after last Thurs nights short foray on the water I think the Orvis is going to be getting the front seat in the lineup for a while as it just felt so sweet...

I was on some new water that I have been wanting to get on for a while and it was just an absolutely beautiful low humidity evening which really added to the experience. Unfortunately I forgot the camera at home in my haste to get to the lake in the small window of opportunity I had.

This lake is surrounded by thick stocked grass which seems like fantastic cover for bass and for pitching bugs. Herring spawn here resulting in supurb growth rates due to the protein packed forage readily available. The state also stocked this body of water with Northern Pike a number years back and they are supposed to have taken. I hope to find out on my own . Either way the pickerel run up to 5lbs so that alone makes for some interesting fishing.

Anyway I thought I would share a couple photos of my new bass buggin Orvis marked Phillipson 8ft 8wt and hope to add some fishing photos to the thread soon.
