Here are some photos of some commons I got when some other lakes are iced out....slooow retreives with bead heads or very small trout flies all
subsurface....on a 3 wt..they are fairly strong ounce for ounce..I was getting them with calico and they seemed to be stronger when the same size....which is
not too big..they only getup to like 8"...."COMMON SHINERS"

These fish seem to prefer colder water as they are most active in early spring or late fall in my area. I use #14 or 16 nymphs or wet flies to get them.
