I think I came to the conclusion I have too many rods. Need your opnion - what would be a fair price for Shakespeare Glass rods 8 1/2 ft. These rods are no
mint - I have fished them heavily. Armand

I have paid anywhere from $30 to $100 for a good Wonderod, I favor the Presdential model in which I have 6 well used rods, FY510. FY710. FY910. The more I use
them the more I love them... Look at Ricks rod or fiberglassflyrodder.com on the web and see what they think asking $$$ for used Glass rods... By the way how
many fly rods do you have? I have 15 fly rods but I tell my wife I only have 6-7....

I agree with Gilbuster both in value range and recommending posting same inquiry on the yuku fiberglass flyrodders forum. |

I told her once if I had one fly rod for every pair of shoes and purse she had, I could open my own tackle store... I got "the hairy eyball" on that
comment. I sleep with one eye open to make sure she doesn't check the closet...My problem is when I get rid of a fly rod; later on I wished I never
parted with it

Ok, no knowledge of it's value but I'll offer a few thoughts:
1)The Department of Defence/ military uses a simple" need to know" rule for passing on of sensitive/classified info. i.e. Before you pass on any potentially damaging info, you need to assure that the requesting person has "a need to know". I would argue that a exact fly rod count cound be damaging and that any spouse doesn't need to know. loose lips sink ships 2) Barring VERY hard times, the sale of a $30 rod will not likely make you noticably richer for longer than it takes to burn up a tank of gas. Regret can last forever. I'd think on it another 10-15 years or so. No point in rushing into these things! 3) Since I've know you for many a year, I'd testify that you are not an avid drinker, smoker or gambler. If having a few to many fly rods around is your biggest vice, i'd say your wife found herself quite a catch. ( and you should tell her so :-) 4) It's allot easier to make a new addition "blend in" if you already have a forest of rods for it to get lost in. There is safety in numbers. 5) If it helps, use me as a bench mark. The number of rods in my collection has often exceed my age and I feel no guilt. My wife married good too!

Fantastic!!!
Thanks Dr. Wee Hooker, (talks and sound like Dr Phil, a man of much philosophical and marital experience) That session is real helpful and I will adhere to your counseling. Your'e absolutely right, loose lips sink ships...I feel better already, no guilt or fear... I am going on eBay tonight to see if there are any "must have" deals, a reconnaissance mission, as you stated "blend in" if you already have a forest of rods for it to get lost in, she'll never be the wiser... wish me luck, going underground... Good thinking John, but remember, it has little to do with luck. It's more artfull planning and skillfull exicution ( and a darn nice diversion for these
winter days.!)

I must sell some rods. I have too many. I have bought rods that i liked, later finding a rod i liked better. I do trade a lot of rods. perhaps we should have a
secret site where we can list all the rods that we want to trade. Sometimes i buy a rod simply to "try it out" because i've never thrown a line
with that particular brand, size, etc. of rod. Then, if I don't like it, it goes in the closet, or I dont fish it much because i have one similar i like
better. I buy a lot of old rods and rebuild them; thats fun but there's no money in it. Course I've traded rods and later regretted letting a rod go,
so, as WH sez, "HASTE MAKES WASTE", or something to that effect-p-

I feel your pain ,pearow. Not to many can claim a bigger rod addiction than I had for 10 years or so. Fortunatly, my tastes were (mostly) afordable and my
rodbuilding buisness provided me with 40% discounts and lots of pocket cash to invest. Consequently, I also bought/built lots of rods just to try with full
intent of trading/selling afterward. No regrets but I did aquire a rediculous amout of rods just to find out that I had a few favorites regardless ( and
tastes that changed over those same 10 years). For me the litmus test for keeping/selling was: a) how much $ is tied up in it, b) does it have any remeaming
qualities that might make me (ever) miss it c) could I ever replace it at a reasonable price. If it didn't meet all three of those criteria , it went into
teh "lets think on that some more" pile (where it likely still rests today!) In the end, I can honestly say that I've never had sellers remorse
in letting any of them go becasue I let them go for the right reasons (none of which were guilt :-))
