I make two trips to New Hampshire each year - one for brookies and one for partridge. Here's a brookie I kept for the pan. It took a sz. 14 soft hackle
Coachman. They also jumped on a Doodle Bug. It was a great weekend! Alec

Nice Fish Alec! I am curious if that antler was just laying around? My freind and I are headed to Western MA to fish for trout later this week. I am not sure
which river exactly we are going to fish possibly the Deerfield. My very first trip to the trout waters of that part of the state. I imagine the fishing could
be tough with the lack of rain we have had the water will be low and very clear.

Alec, Neat classic picture of Brook trout, fly rod, autumn leaves and a deer antler...very classy...
Jeff, don't let a woman out-fish you! Really... Marla Blair is one heck of a fly fisherman and she has great knowledge and passion for a lot of trout waters, I am sure you will have a blast and learn a great deal...we want pictures I have considered taking her up on some trout fishing guide service and introducing my wife and I to the sport

My friend Mike and I had a wonderful day of fine fishing and learning with Marla Blair today on the Swift River in Western MA. This was all new to us and Marla is a fantastic teacher. Weather turned out great considering they were forcasting rain for the morning. The fish got real active when the sun came out around noon. I didn't keep an exact count of fish caught but it was at least 6 all but one being rainbows. The one exception was a brown. The first fish I think was the biggest arond 17" or so. I didn't bring my camera and Mike's battery died so he only got morning photos. Marla will send us some in a week of us with a couple fish. The scenery was just perfect with the leaves just starting to turn and the water is gin clear! The rainbows have beautiful markings in that cool clear water and pratically swim between your legs. We had such a good trip we booked a day for next June and will try the Farmington. Highly recommend anyone new to trout give her a try if you want to learn more about fishing these rivers. Used my glass Leon Chandler (fisher) all day and probably saved me breaking off the 1-2lb tippet on more than one occasion. I did break off a real nice fish at the Y pool just after lunch though
Stay tuned for pics to follow.... |

We fished Marla's own creation the Jailbird emerger nymph first thing in the morning and switched to a san juan worm later. Both worked well for us but
everyday is different so you never know. One of the coolest things was hooking a nice rainbow up current while fishing some structure and having it run
downstream behind me forcing me to do a little river dance to stay tight
