Man, that's just crappie of you, I am pee green jealous... it is 18 degrees with 25 mph winds outside..I am drooling all over my computer...Nice pictures
of hefty crappie and a nice kayak set up... keep them coming

OK...I am guilty of bring the food photos to two other fly fishing sites...so I'll bring it up here as well. If you are
going out "meat fishing" for specs...you've got to at least give us the true ending of the story! Where is the dinner photo of the spec filets
all battered up on the plate with side items? That my friend is "THE END" of a fishing for food thread!
It has already been said...but very nice kayak set up. If I can ever stop buying old reels and fiberglass rods I might just have a chance of saving up enough allowence to purchase a kayak myself. |

Did those fish hit on top or were you getting them sub-surface? Curious as I saw a lot of floaters in your box, and while I've caught many calicoes on the surface, they're usually not targeted with poppers or floating flies. I've had my best luck with either white or purple lead-headed flies (buggers and clausers) tied with a generous amount of flash. No matter how you caught 'em, though, that's a nice stringer of fish! Deep and slow. Fast sinking tip line using size10 crappie candies (Left hand side 3 rows up from the bottom: Skip's dad, crease fly, 2 candies, and some nymph I tied from a pattern in Fly Tyer) Those little crease flies are just there as a backup
if I see bass hitting topwater and all I have is the 4wt.

You are lucky. It has been decent here, but any fishable water has been FROZEN for the past two months with one day of relative open water in there for a
break...just enough for some casting practice.
Great fish. Nice supper...I believe I might bring some gills home this spring! Andy |
