Nice Bill, Some 30 years ago I used to fish for carp usign canned corn and Ul spinning gear up on the Merrimac R in NH.
I vividly remember how strong those fish fought when you got into fish in the 5-12# range. ( I was spooled more than once!) It's alwys been on my "to do" list to target them with a fly rod. I've never known or seen anybody up this way target them this way so I think I'm on my own. I do know a couple of (urban) rivers within an hour or so of home that i can chase them, just never gets to the top of my list. Oh well, sooner or latter I'll get to it. p.s. Are you fishing moving water? Retrieve/Drift? |

These fish are residents of NJ's Passaic river. sometimes I catch them when they are clooping and other times when they are feeding on the bottom. But I
sight fish for them as they can not be force to eat. carp must already be in an eating mode if you are to catch them on a fly. If you see them cruising in
an area try pre baiting the area with bread or corn and see what their reaction is.

Thanks for the tip. I considered the "pre-baiting" /chumming idea. We used to fish canned corn as bait. Man it worked good! I think I have allot to
learn before attempting it though. Maybe when I retire in 7 years-)
