Carrie Stevens (1882-1970) of Upper Dam, Maine, created some of the most beautiful and enduring streamer patterns ever, including the legendary Gray Ghost,
which she designed to catch the giant brook trout and landlocked salmon of the Rangeley Lakes. "No tier of that period was as creative in designing
patterns or tied better quality, more lifelike streamers than Mrs. Stevens. How many could tie a fly without a vise, even a simple woolly bugger or deer hair
bug? Here is an interesting article of a tying challenge of days gone bye... I found it interesting and enjoyed the comments of the highly regarded tyers who
tried her no vise challenge....
