Years ago when I started fly fishing with a seven foot Eagle Claw Feather Light fly rod and little Martin reel up in Northern Michigan for bluegills...there were several times when I had hooked up with a small bluegill only to have my rod bend over double under the weight of a trashing pike that had picked off my little 'gill as dinner.
Now living in S.C. the family pond has quite a few resident pickerel (aka jacks or jackfish)...some pretty decent sized...that are excellent at coming to the fly.

Last spring we had days where the pickerel were pretty persistant and as the weather warmed through spring into summer we stopped catching them. I'll be looking forward to getting out on the pond soon and hooking up with a few "handles"...
